  • Globalization is one out of many factors affecting the world of education, in particular, Islamic education. The character of nation is fading because of technology development. Empowering Islamic education embracing local wisdom values is likely to be a guidance for younger generation to behave in accordance with the nation’s identity. Becoming one of local wisdom sources, Serat Wedhatama teaches nobble attitude of human life. This study aims to further uncover its nobility: the political, economic, social and cultural lives of Javanese society while Serat Wedhatama was written; the way it dealt with the people’s character crisis, under the Dutch colonization while practicing Islamic values. When planning a curriculum of Islamic education on the basis of Javanese Serat, it could serve as the educators’ guidance. Employing a document studies from textbooks, journals and the like, the study is a qualitative research critical discourse analysis study of scientists’ thoughts. A theory of Islamic education from systemic education point of view constituting objectives, materials or curriculum, methods, materials, education, students, and evaluation was applied. The study of Islamic education concept written in Serat Wedhatama by K.G.P.A.A. Mangkunegara IV was also involved. Three dimensional analysis model constituting text, text production, and social analysis was utilized as well. The results show that (a) Serat Wedhatamawritten during 1784-1807 Javanese calendar or 1855--1878 Christian calendar embraced politics and economics (power political tension and economic system tension between Mangkunegara region and the Dutch colony), culture (character crisis of the elites and the people of the region), and education (literate civilians but lack in politeness). (b) The concept of Islamic education in his work was a response to a foulsociety whose attitudes were described as farfromGod, lack of confidence, lack of care of others, and faded away of palace’s traditional political bound. (c) The Islamic education concept in that literature work can be classified as systemic education discourse that constitutes objectives, materials, education, students, method and evaluation. (d) Islamic education concept elaborated in K.G.P.A.A. Mangkunegara’s work became the basic implementation of the National Education System. When planning a curriculum of Islamic education on the basis of Javanese Serat, it could serve as the educators’ guidance.
