  • Phubbing is the tendency of someone who chooses to play with a smartphone rather than interacting with the people around them. Behavior Phubbing occurs among Communication Science students who should understand how to create effective communication. Raising the title "The Effect of Phubbing on Social Interaction in the Classroom Learning Process (Descriptive Study on Communication Studies Students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Class of 2018-2019)", this thesis aims to find out in depth what effects are caused by behavior phubbing. The type of research used is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Methods of collecting data by means of interviews, observation, and documentation. The theory used in this research is the Dependency Theory Media (DependencyMedia).The results of this study indicate that Communication Studies students have an addiction to smartphones because they cannot be far from smartphones. However, the phubbing that occurs is relatively low because Communication Science students apply communication ethics when interacting directly. The effects of phubbing among Communication Studies students include: Mis communication, decreased value of delivering messages, decreased quality of social relations, social exclusion, being the subject of conversation, reduced empathy, loss of information, wasting time.
