- Magnetite-humic acid (Fe3O4-AH) has been synthesized by a coprecipitation method using sodium hydroxide. The humic acid was extacted from Sumatran peat soil and successfully coated onto the surface of magnetite (Fe3O4). FTIR characterization indicates that there has been Fe-O bond which is characterized by the appearance of absorption at 586,36 cm-1 wavelength. Magnetite-humic acid is used as a naphtol blue b dye adsorbent. Naphtol blue b dye adsorption was used to study pH optimization, determination of adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm. Based on the result of research, optimization of pH of optimum naphtol blue b dye solution at pH 6. Determination of reaction xiii rate constant is needed in studying adsorption kinetics. Based on the results of the research, the adsorption of naphtol blue b dye by Fe3O4-AH adsorbent follows the second order adsorption kinetics model according to Ho with the reaction rate constant of 26,43 g mol-1 minute-1. The adsorption of naphtol blue b dye on Fe3O4-AH follows Langmuir's isotherm model with adsorption capacity of 2.30 mmol g-1 which means that every 1 gram of Fe3O4-AH adsorbent will adsorb naphtol blue b dye by 2.30 mmol with a potential energy of 23.02 kJ mol-1.
