Islamic ethic of environment: the case study on environmental management of contemporary Semarang 2005-2015

- Semarang as the capital city of Central Java has a vision, “Semarang is Metropolitan City which is Religious, Orderly, and Cultured”. This Religious symbolism can be felt when it is implemented in rituals, worships, and religious practices. Alas, this religious symbolism is not yet visible do applied in the environmental management. There are many worship place but does not pay attention to the environment. This study applied qualitative research in which the data is collected through field work, by grounded observation in the religious spot of Semarang City, documentary, and interview with related people to get the information about Semarang City. This study also uses descriptive analysis and phenomenology approaches, to attain the manifestation of Islamic ethic applied the environmental management of Semarang City. The result of this study is that environmental management of Semarang City is supported by sustainable development criterias, because the aspect of economy, social, and environments in the same portion. While the environments is still need improving because there are getting many critic toward some problems such as flood, rob, land subsidence etc, but these problems in the process of fixing like Semarang River normalization project and restitution the buffer and rain water infiltration area in the suburban by the government. So, the City of Semarang at least already reflected the Islamic ethic of environments, which is actually concerned on sustainable development.
