  • The background of this research was the students of Eighth grade of MTs Miftahul Ulum Weding Demak had a problem to understand simple past tense especially when they were asked to change from positive to negative and to interrogative. They still had weakness in changing the sentences. The population of the research was the eighth grade students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Weding Demak. The research method was experimental research which was conducted in two classes: the experimental class (VIII D) and control class (VIII E). The experimental class (VIII D) was taught by using song, while the control class (VIII E) was taught by using conventional method. The formula that was used to analyze the data was Two-Ways ANOVA. It was used to determine whether there was significant different between students’ score in experimental and control class or not. After collecting data, it was found that the pre-test average score in experimental class was 37.10526 and control class was 43.71429. Meanwhile, the post-test average score in experimental class was 78.816 and control class was 73.571. It was obtained that F count (11.880) was higher than F Table (3.908). It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Based on the result, the researcher concluded that using song as a teaching strategy was effective to improve students’ comprehension in simple past tense at the Eighth grade students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Weding Demak in the academic year of 2015/ 2016.
