- The aim of this study is to identify the effectiveness using SWELL to teach descriptive text writing at the tenth-grade of MA Nahdlatul Ulama Mranggen in the academic year of 2019/2020. The method of this study is a quantitative research and an experimental design. The sample of this study is the tenth grade of MA Nahdlatul Ulama Mranggen. Students of X MIA 1 as the experimental class, whereas students of X MIA 2 as the control class. Each class consists of 30 students. The sample technique of this sampling is purposive sampling. The instrument used written pre-test and post-test. The data is served by numerical and tested by the statistical formula of the t-test. Based on the calculation of the data, the mean score of the experimental class is increased. The finding of this study showed that the use of SWELL in descriptive text writing is effective. It is proved by the data that (6.71) is higher than (2.00) in the significance level of 0.05. It is considered that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It is stated that there is a significant effect on using SWELL to teach descriptive text writing.
