  • The Semarang State Polytechnic as an institution of higher vocational education currently has more than 500 units computers which is spread out on 21 computer laboratories / multimedia laboratories. In each laboratory is equipped with air conditioner (AC). Power supply system in Polines is served by 2 transformers, named transformer transformer III and transformer I . The power capacity of transformer III and transformer I are 400 kVA . Computer, printer, energy-efficient lighting and other appliances with motor speed control are a non-linear loads that cause harmonics in the power system network. High content of harmonics on power system network causes overheating to the distribution transformers. It is not treated immediately will cause the transformer life time becomes shorter. The research was aimed to determine harmonics content and its effect on distribution transformers in Polines by performing measurements on transformers under load conditions. The transformers load was in accordance with the required of Polines load in academic and administrativ activities. The comparation method between the results of measurements with the IEEE 519-1992 standard is used to analyze the problem. By comparing the measurement results with the IEEE 519-1992 standard, it can be determined whether the tranformer need to be derating or not. Based on the results of the research, the harmonic content of the transformer III and transformer I for the total harmonic content of voltage (THDV) was below the standard (<5%) and total harmonic current content (TDD) or IHD for the second transformer was also below the standard. So that the transformers did not need for derating. However, due to the fact that transformer was over heated, it means that the heat of the transformer has gone beyond that allowed by the standard heat SPLN 8-2: 1991, then it needs to be calculated transformer losses increase due to load containing harmonics. The results of the research indicate that, the harmonic content transformer III for the TDD and IHD were higher than the transformer I, this causes higher heating effect. The highest temperature for transformer III was 67.5 °C, while the transformer I was 66.2 oC.
