  • Background: The community of men who have sex with men (MSM) is a high risk group due to their sexual and non-sexual behavior, resulting in the increase of syphilis. Risk factor for syphilis in MSM connected to internal and exsternal factors. The increasing prevalence and morbidity of syphilis in MSM may the risk for occurance of HIV infection. Purpose: To find out the prevalence of syphilis, and to examine a relationship between internal and external factors and the prevalence of syphilis among MSM community in Yogyakarta Methode: Using a cross-sectional method among 97 subjects of MSM community. Sample of blood was collected to find out syphilis infection by doing the serologic tests of VDRL and TPHA, and questionnaires were spread to find out internal and external factors. The sample was collected by a consecutive sampling technique. Data analysis was done by using the chi-square test for odds ratio and 95% confidence interval, and multivariate analysis using a multiple logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of syphilis among MSM community was 16.5%. There were factors having significant relationships with prevalence of the occurrence of syphilis, the age for first time anal sex with p=0.049 and OR=6.260 (95% CI: 1.009-38.836)
