Daftar Isi:
  • The Province of Sumatera Utara is one of the economical power of Sumatera Island. Sumatera Utara acccounted more than 20 (twenty) percent of Gross Domestic Regional Product (GDRP) of Sumatera Island and has a positive regional real GDRP growth. But the differences of characters between district/city in Sumatera Utara Province is causing disparity between district/city. Some of the district/city has rapidly grown, while others are grow with relatively slow pace. This study aims to analyze the real GDRP per capita disparity between district/city in the Province of Sumatera Utara in 1995 to 2010. This study is also sought to see whether the inequality tend to decrease (convergence) or increase (divergence). Data that being used in this study are secondary panel data, consist of real GDRP per capita based on constant price of year 2000, labor force participation rate (TPAK), population density and the realization of government expenditures. Analysis tools used are regional typology, Williamson Index, coefficient of variance, multiple regression and panel data regression to estimate the value of absolute and conditional beta convergence. Regional typology observation shown that most of the district/city has relatively low real GDRP per capita compared to the average of real GDRP per capita of Sumatera Utara. Multiple regression also showed that population density has a significantly positive effect to disparity and realization of government expenditures has a significantly negative effect. The estimation of convergence proves that there was no sigma or beta convergence in Sumatera Utara. In 1995, the value of Williamson Index was 0. 403 and in 2010 the value increased to 0.4768. The rate of divergence in Sumatera Utara was 4.4057 percent per year for absolute beta convergence and 3.8059 percent per year for conditional beta convergence.
