  • Overvoltage transient is one of the causes of insulation failure in electric power systems, if the magnitude exceeds the voltage BIL (Basic Insulation Level) insulation equipment and electric power components used will result in damage to equipment. Switching surge is one factor in causing the transient overvoltage. Surge caused by the operation circuit recloser to break the system due to interference, which is temporary or permanent. This research study and analyze the transient voltage that occurs at 20 kV power line to the load connected to the low voltage side. Analysis using the program EMTP (Electro Magnetic Transient Program) as a tool to simulate the occurrence of surge circuit 20 kV distribution network. Study materials for this study were drawn from the data lines 20 kV feeders Lhoksukon GH (Sentry The relationship) Pantonlabu North Aceh. The simulation results show that the voltage transients that occur throughout the distribution network will increase. Tme delay to open and close the recloser contacts are brief transient increase in voltage resulted in twice the nominal voltage. At an angle of 90 Âo transient overvoltage higher than at an angle of 0 Âo when the contact closure is set on one of the phase. Recloser switching arrangement can be used as consideration in determining the protection equipment at the 20 kV voltage and low voltage
