Antibiotics which are not appropriately used in patients with non-specific fever may cause negative impacts on them. The use of antibiotics in Banyumas General Hospital for patients with non-specific fever is still widely found. Therefore, it is necessary to do the research to determine the accuracy and rationality of the use of antibiotics which are used in patients with non-specific fever in Banyumas General Hospital. Purpose: To evaluate the use of antibiotics in patients with non-specific fever in Banyumas General Hospital. Methods: The method used in this research is qualitative research with a case study design. Results: From a search of medical records on January - December 2010, it was found 283 cases of fever, 57 cases (20.1%) with the final diagnosis of non specific fever and the rest was 44 cases of DHF (15.5%), 25 cases of dengue fever (8.8%), 16 cases of Typoid fever (5 ,7%), 15 cases of UTI (5.3%) and other diagnoses were 126 cases (44.5%). In the most cases the antibiotics used were single-antibiotics. Patients with age < 5 years old were given ampicillin and chloramphenicol, the treatment time was 13 days, the expenses needed was 5 times higher. Patients with age 5 12 years old were given cefixim, the treatment time was 3 days, the expenses needed was 1 time higher. Patients with age > 12 years old were given ceftriaxon, the treatment time was 7 days, the expenses needed was 31 times higher. The early administration of antibiotics was given based on physical examination and anamnesa Conclusion: The percentage of cases of non-specific fever found in Banyumas General Hospital is 20.1%. The use of antibiotics in Banyumas General Hospital for patients with non-specific fever has not been appropiate because the use of antibiotics has not been in accordance with the hospital standard treatment. The use of antibiotic does not guarantee the efficacy and the lenghth of the treatment time and also it does not decrease the treatment cost .
