  • The thesis analyzes the G-33 as Indonesia's economic diplomacy strategy in fighting for special products and special safeguard mechanism at the forum of multilateral trade negotiations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This is because many of the problems which is faced by developing countries, as well as Indonesia, is happened in the international trade of agriculture. So it encourages developing countries including Indonesia to form the G-33 (Group 33) as a coalition of 46 developing countries after Ministerial Conference (KTM) Cancun 2003. The aim of G-33 is to fight for Special Product (SP) and Special Safeguard Mechanism (SSM) which is considered as a mechanism for protecting the agriculture of developing countries in WTO multilateral negotiating forum. The research objective of this thesis is to describe the efforts of Indonesia's diplomacy in Special Products and Special Safeguard Mechanism. This thesis research also seeks to explore effective economic diplomacy strategy for the developing members of WTO, in particular Indonesia at multilateral forums like the WTO. This study uses explanative analysis and qualitative research methods. Explanative research aims to explain what would happen if certain variables are controlled or manipulated .At other hands it also aims to test the hypotheses, whether the hypothesis can be confirmed or rejected. Indonesia recognizes that developing countries should be united and form a G-33 because the concept of SP / SSM related to food security, poverty alleviation and rural development. The struggle of SP and SSM has been conducted since 2003 (the Doha Round negotiations). SP and SSM have been accommodated in the package of July 2004, and elaborated on the outcome of negotiations KTM VI Hongkong.
