- This study deals with quasi-copula in English. Quasi-copula is a linguistic unit: a verb with equivalent function of copula be. According to its name, quasiwhich comes from Latin and means almost or as if, it is a linguistic unit which is almost a copula. Therefore, quasi-copula owns some properties of copula be. However, its nature as lexical verb remains the same. This study aims at depicting the concept of quasi-copula so the further examination can be undertaken. The examination includes the identification of unlisted copular verbs. After the identification has been done, a number of verbs found is summed up with the previous copular verbs listed by Quirk et al. Totally there are 52 quasi-copulas and these copulas are classified into some categories. Besides, the study intends to analyze 1) quasi-copula in clause or sentence, 2) meaning of quasi-copula, the laternation, argument realization � complementation and semantic structure of quasi-copula, and 3) factors that trigger the emergence of quasi-copula and its phenomena in daily use. This study is a descriptive qualitative research since it attempts to describe certain linguitic phenomena related to the object of the study. After the identification of the unlisted copular verbs, the data start to be collected. The data include quasicopular clause or sentence and are gathered from many sources. After the data have been collected, the classification and the relevant analyses can be done thoroughly, based on the problems being proposed. The result of the study exhibit that 1) there are some unlisted copular verbs (quasi-copula), 2) the formation of quasi-copular clause or sentence can be done through canonical or non-canonical ways, 3) quasi-copula is resulted from an alternation of its lexical form, and 4) there are some factors that trigger the emergence of quasi-copula, include internal and external factors. Moreover, the use of quasicopula in constructions are intriguing to be observed and portrayed.
