Daftar Isi:
- This study endeavor to analyze the strategy of the establishment of the SBU processing copper concentrates in PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PT NNT), therefore this study will be able to provide input for the company to arrange the establishment of SBU specialty on processing copper concentrate. PT NNT is a copper and gold mining company operating in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province. PT NNT is bound by employment contracts with the government in order to seek copper and gold minerals and began production in 2000. In accordance with Law No. 4 of 2009, companies are obliged to perform processing and refining of metal in the country. To meet this assignment, needs to be study on factors that affecting the external and internal matter for PT NNT, subsequently the optimization of investment in the mining sector would be achieved. Achievement indicator of the optimization is the SBU should be established to provide long term benefits. The analytical tool to apply in this research is a PEST qualitative analysis for PT NNT external environments and KSF and SWOT qualitative analysis for internal matters. The results showed that external factors support the establishment of SBU based on PEST analysis, because: a) support from the Government on mining activities, b) Indonesian economy that continues to increase, c) availability of trained manpower and d) technology of copper smelting has been known in Indonesia. KSF analyses indicate that the company has the ability to mine and processing copper ore into copper metal. The SWOT analysis reveals that the company has strength in terms of copper reserves, management, and infrastructure. While the drawback is the estimated cost of smelting is higher than the cost at other smelters in the world, and the sulfuric acid storage management. Opportunities in the establishment of the SBU are the need for sulfuric acid in the country and improving the world economy affecting the copper metal demand. Threats in the establishment of the SBU are a decrease in revenue due to falling prices of sulfuric acid and the plan to initiate a new smelting company called PT Nusantara Smelting in Bontang. Based on aspects of the SWOT analysis can be identified that the industry is not attractive, because SBU as the strategic long-term program, it cant provide sustainable added value for the company.
