- Community forest plantation development program is a program of forest development by the community. In Gunungkidul district, the program is located in the area of production forest land former AB. AB land has long been managed by people with a pattern of subsistence farming. This study aims determine public response to community forest plantation development program in order to support the sustainability of the program. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques using in-depth interviews and field observations. The research showed that the HTR program requires communities to change land management systems that were previously dominated by crops to become more timber. The activities that had previously been an individual to a group activity. Public perception toward the program are varied. Public attitudes towards the HTR program is well in spite of having different level of acceptance. Community response is influenced by the level of public knowledge of the program and the socio-economic background of society. The success and sustainability of the program would not be existed without the existence of community empowerment and active participation of the community. Therefore, it required a more intensive of socialization and involve all program participants to increase public knowledge and confidence in the success of the program. Further a study on the characteristics of local people is crusial before the implementation of the program.
