- Policies of the National Family Planning Program is part of efforts to control population growth rate, which is done through various programs, one of which is birth control. The policy was later formulated into the Vision, Mission and Basic Strategy as a reference for the implementation of family planning programs in the future. The reference contains a mandate for the whole family to participate in family planning, meaning that each partner or prospective husband and wife have early conduct family planning carefully and responsibly by following the various family planning program, one of which is the birth control carefully by husband and wife. The research was conducted using secondary data is Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) 2007. While the analytical methods used to find relationships between research variables are cross-tabulation analysis with Chi-Square statistical tests, and Spearman Rank correlation. As for knowing the propensity of the dependent variables using multinomial logistic regression analysis. Based on the obtained results of that research based on age, education, and area of residence of husband and wife, have a meaningful relationship with the number of children desired by both husband and wife. This can be seen from the p-value of less than 5 percent. Only on the status of course work, both husband and wife who did not show a significant relationship because it has value p-value of more than 5 percent. Broadly it can be said characteristic factors of social, economic, and demographic both husband and wife both have a significant impact or relationship with the number of children wanted. Furthermore, also found that among the decisions on the number of children desired, the use of contraceptives and fertility strong interplay with one another. This can be seen from the value p-value obtained is less than 5 percent. Based on these results, some important recommendations for the implementation of family planning programs in the future include the need for equitable education for all people especially the poor, or unable, the need for family planning information to design a more communicative, educational, and persuasive, the need for a shift in perspective about the importance of following the family planning program is not just intended for the creation of small family a happy and prosperous, but more broadly that is on efforts to increase awareness of society and the environment.
