  • The airport noise disturbances are mainly resulted from such an Aircraft movement as takeoff, landing, and taxiing. These noises have such negative impacts as annoyance, decreased quality of life, and health problems on the community living around an Airport. This research aims to identify the issue of aircraft noise and valuation of noise at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Indonesia, using SP approach. Valuation of noise was made in two time periods at Saturday morning and Saturday day. Data for this research was collected through observation and questionnaires at residentsâ houses around the airport. People living near the airport were subject to noise exposure from the airport activity. These people had varied socio-economic and demographic characteristics. In the SP exercise respondent had to choose between two alternatives, characterized by plane movements and additional income tax. Furthermore, number of planes were differentiated between two-engine jet and four-engine jet based on the existing number of planes at the Airport. Of 380 questionnaires which have been distributed, 72 % response rates or 275 data sets were obtained. Results of this research found that the value of aircraft noise for Saturday morning and for Saturday daytime was about Rp.576 and Rp.872 respectively. In the model where total planes were differentiated according to the types of plane that depart from the airport, we found no significant different valuation of noise between the two types of aircraft. Such a wide range of variables as monthly income tax, income level, age, gender, household size, presence of children, employment status, education level, and housing types were also tested on the valuation of aircraft noise Of all the variables, only age and monthly income tax showed to have statistically significant influence on the value of noise. While age influenced noise attributes, monthly income tax was found to have effect on the cost attributes.
