  • Ae. aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae) was the main vector of hemorrhagic fever. Various controlling methods of the vector have been used, but the incidence of the disease increased constantly. Lethal Ovitrap (LO) as the modification of ovitrap by adding insecticide to its ovistrip could be used to control the population of Ae. aegypti mosquito. The study aimed to investigate the impact of submerging duration of the ovistrip in LO cypermethrin on the mortality, the fecundity and the hatching capability of the Ae. aegypti mosquito. It was a laboratory experiment with post test only one group control design. Their samples were 10 mosquitoes per cage for each of experimental groups resulting from the colonization of the Ae. aegypti mosquito in the entomology laboratory, Lokalitbang P2P2 Banjarnegara. Mature and blood feed Ae. aegypti females of 6-8 days of age were used. The main materials of the study were cypermethrin 25 EC (25 gr/l) and chloroform as solvent. Cypermethrin used in the ovistrip were 12,5 Âμg a.i/100 cm 2 and 20 Âμg a.i/100 cm 2 , and the submerging duration ranged from 0 day to 3 months. The results of the study showed that 70% mortality of the mosquitoes was obtained with 12,5 Âμg a.i/strip LO cypermethrin in the ovistrip submerging durations of 1, 2 and 30 days. LO cypermethrin with 20 Âμg a.i/strip resulted in 70% mortality of the mosquitoes in the ovistrip submerging durations of 1, 2, 6, 7, 28 and 30 days. The observation of the 3-months ovistrip submerging was indicative of 40 and 33.3% mortality of the mosquitoes in both of LO cypermetrin. The LO cypermethrin with 12,5 Âμg a.i/strip could decrease the fecundity of the experimental mosquitoes, indicating that 0.11, 1.67 and 1.89 were found only in the submersion of LO 2, 3 and 7 days. The fecundity value of the LO cypermethrin with 20 Âμg a.i/strip could not be determined because there was no egg laid on the treated ovistrip. The LO cypermethrin had significant impact on the decrease in the development of the experimental mosquitoes as indicated by the absence of the hatching eggs of the experimental mosquitoes into larvae. The results of the study showed that the LO cypermethrin could be used as the alternative method to control the Ae. aegypti mosquito population in field for three months with the monthly replacement of new ovistrip.
