  • Gelation process is one of the stages of making nuclear reactor fuel, which is UO2 kernel. This stage is very important in the overall stages of the manufacturing of UO2 kernel because at this stage there is a change of sol into a gel in the form of small spherical granules. This research aims to describe quantitatively the process of gelation and to get the values of the rate parameters which are DB and k. The sol is made of uranyl nitrate, polyvinyl alcohol/PVA and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol/THFA. The sol was fed using syienge in the gelation colomn which contains ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH). The reaction between the sol and NH4OH forms the gel. The gel which was made from the gelation process was analised using spectrofotometer to measure ammonium concentration. The ammonium concentration was used to calculate stoichiometrically the amount of gelated uranium. The reaction is non catalitic heterogenous reaction. The reaction occur in UO2(NO3)2. The mathematical modeling used in match with the data. Simulation results show that the rate constant (k) is 8.8023e-06 m3/mol.detik and the diffusion coeficient (DB) is 6.3574e-11 m2/detik.
