- <p>Background Interpersonal communication skills have significant role in assessing the quality of dental health service. There is a link between Interpersonal communication and health outcomes, therefore patients are considering the quality of interpersonal skills that is shown by their dentist. Gayungan Surabaya community dental health service (CDHS) as one of government community dental health service needs to evaluate the quality of interpersonal communication in effort to increase the quality and outcomes of dental health service. The objective of this study was to examine patient feedback on the interpersonal communication of Gayungan Surabaya community dental health service (CDHS).<br /> Method The study was conducted in Gayungan Surabaya CDHS on July 2011. The participants were 200 patients above 18 years. All of the participants filled the interpersonal communication satisfaction questionnaire. Result Assessing the dentist-patient relationship, ability active listening to the patient, adequacy of explanations to the patient, and clarity of instructions aspect, more than 50% of patients have higher score in expectation of interpersonal communication than in perceived of interpersonal communication assessment. Conclusion The results described that patients in Gayungan Surabaya CDHS assessed that their expectation of interpersonal communication has not been fully fulfilled by Gayungan Surabaya CDHS. This information becomes important input for Gayungan Surabaya CDHS in planning interpersonal skills development programme.</p>
