  • <p>Poly-5-allyl-25,26,27,28-tetrahydroxycalix[4]arene can be applied as an adsorbent of heavy metal cations due to the presence of an active hydroxyl group (-OH). In the form of polymer, the cyclic hydroxyl groups and calix[4]arenes cavity are arranged in a series to form a tunnel-liked structure, which will maximize the adsorption process for heavy metal cations. Adsorption was carried out towards Pb(II), Cd(II) and Cr(III) ions in batch system. Several variables including pH, contact time and initial concentration of metal ions were determined. The optimum adsorption conditions were achieved at pH 4.0, 4.5 and 5.5 for Pb(II), Cd(II) and Cr(III) ions, respectively. In addition, the optimum contact time of Pb (II) ion adsorption was 180 minutes, while those for Cd (II) and Cr(III) ions were 135 minutes. The adsorption kinetics of Pb(II), Cd(II) and Cr(III) ions using the calixarene polymer adsorbent followed a pseudo 2 nd order kinetics model, with adsorption rate constants of 10 &#8315
