-
The basic aim of this work is to study the influence of Sr or TiB addition in the Al-6%Si-2%Fe melt on microstructure, impact strength and fatigue crack growth. The alloys were melted in crucible furnace added the Sr and TiB at 7300C, and casted on sand mold. The microstructure was studied by using optical microscope. The result shows that the addition of Sr in Al-6%Si-2%Fe alloys modifies the morphology of the eutectic silicon phase from a coarse plate-like to fine fibrous structure. The addition of TiB in Al-6%Si-2%Fe increases the impact strength but the addition of Sr decreases the impact strength. The addition of Sr and TiB increases the fatigue crack growth.
