•
The Western part Mount Lawu had been developed horticultural agriculture especially for vegetables. The usage of pesticides and fertilizers in the farm land had caused soil pollution. Moreover, the erosion hazard in this area was in high rate that made the nutrient loss. Both of nutrient loss and soil pollution had become a serious problem that acted as land limitation for such kind of vegetables. Hence, it was a necessity to find kind of method to recover this problem.
The objectives of this research were: a) determining the land suitability for vegetable crops and its land chemical limitation, b) determining kind of appropriate method for overcoming land limitation. The research area was divided into land units which have typical characteristic of chemical and soil physical properties. In order to obtain the land suitability map, the matching method was applied. The matching process was done using the soil properties of each land units with the horticultural crops requirement. This research considers the excessive value of chemical factors as the land limitation.
The results of this research showed that among the soil chemical properties, the pH becomes the most problem of land limitation. The pH limitation made the Marginally Suitable class (S3) for onions, garlic, chili, beans, carrots and endives. The rest of chemical properties (Cations Exchange Capacity, base saturation, C organic content, salinity, and alkalinity) were in favorable condition and very suitable for the horticulture crops. In order to recover the pH limitation, the lime application was recommended in the study area.
