  • The study of phenol recovery with membrane technology using polieugenol as a carrier has been investigated by the method of polyvinylchloride (PVC) based Polymer Inclusion Membrane (PIM). PIM were prepared by mixing polyeugenol as a carrier, PVC as a membrane matrix, and dibenzylether (DBE) as a plasticizer with the composition of 10 : 32 : 58 % w/w. The parameters studied were phenol pH in the source phase, pH in the stripping phase, and transport time. This study also conducted reusability test by applying PIM for a repeated experiment. The selectivity of phenol transport was studied in an artificial waste which is a mixture of phenol with a chromium (III). In this study the optimum conditions was obtained at pH 4.5, in the source phase, pH 11 in the stripping phase (NaOH concentration of 0.001) and the transport time of 48 hours. The efficiency of phenol transported to the stripping phase with the use of PIM on once, twice, and three times were 91.4, 36.6, and 20.6 %, respectively. This method is recommended for optimum recovery of phenol up to 91.43% with permeability of 8.8 x 10-5 m/s , a mass transfer coefficient of 3.5 x 10-12 m2/s and the flux of 7.1 x 10-3g/m2s. Selectivity test of phenol transport percentage of 64.9% while the chromium (III) transport percentage of 0.2%.
