  • Antibiotic is a kind of drug that is most common used. The inappropriate use of antibiotics will increase the medication cost and side effect of antibiotics. Extensive use of antibiotics and for some cases is not necessary, will cause microbial resistance. The aim of this research is to know the rationality of antibiotics use for hospitalized patient in internist ward RSUP Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta. This research is an observational research using cross-sectional design. The sampling process is done prospectively by filling the questionnaire by resident doctors in internist ward in RSUP Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta and using the medical record within January 2011 period and the data analysis is done descriptively. The antibiotics in this research are used for 54 patients with 19 kinds of infection cases with 150 episodes infections. The appropriate use of antibiotics is 85,3% infection episodes. There are 8,7% antibiotic dose is not appropriate the patient to the patient with diminished renal function. The result of antibiotic therapy 56,7% gives good responses. The doctor respondent that includes in inclusion criteria is 35 people. Respondent (doctor) in this research is appropriate with ABUSE classification, about 37,1% is already good in giving antibiotics therapy for the patients that are in the Brick classification which means the doctor is solid and consistent with his belief about the therapy he gave to the patients.
