- Background: one of six married women still present unmet need on contraception. Particularly in developing countries, 87 million women from 211 million pregnancies per year experience unwanted pregnancies and 46 million pregnancies are terminated with abortion, Unfortunately 40% abortions are done with unsafe procedures as a result of unmet need to contraception. Domestic violence received by women impedes their ability in negotiation and practice of contraceptive use effectively. Objective: To find out the relationship between domestic violence received by women and unmet need on family planning service. Method: An observational study with a cross-sectional study design. The population in this study was reproductive age women (15-49 years) living in Banda Aceh Municipality. Sample taking used three stage sampling, by modifying purposive sampling technique and simple random sampling technique. Data collection used a questioner referring to SEHATI questioner in 2000 and Indonesian Demography and Health Survey in year 2007. Hypothesis testing was done with chi-square followed with logistic regression analysis. Result: There was a consistent relationship between physical abuse (PR=2.9
