  • One of the major problem on the clean water fulfilment in the shouthest areas of Islands of the Southwest Maluku District of Province Maluku is limited of sources of clean water quality. People are forced to buy clean water in dry season and some people who have limited economic condition use of unsafe water quality. Despite having no surface water sources, but the area has a potential sources to covered the water problem using 7 small reservoir in the island. This may be a strategic role in supporting the availability of raw water to meet water supply on the island. This study aims to assess the potential availability of water in the catchment area, water demand supported by this small reservoir of Abusur. The results of water availability in the form of fluctuations of the water volume in the resevoir experienced suplus until the end of the dry season. In November, a total volume of 32,363.9 m 3 was available, while a total volume of 59.370,5 m 3 was discharge in the form of run off. Based on the above condition using optimization is done by adding 10 % of the water demand and decreasing run off of about 1,48 % in November. Proportion of water for householdis about 31.9%, 47.9% vegetable gardens and farm land of 20.3%. Water balance analysis including the evaporation of about 15.12%, water demand was about 32.8%, runoff was about 17, 48% and water infiltration of about 34.52%. Reservoir optimization is proposed by increasing the height of dam, hence increasing the capacity of the reservoir for higher water utilization and optimized the reservoir functioning.
