- This thesis discusses the system of phonetic substitution or ibdÄl in Arabic with the perspective of modern linguistics. IbdÄl is the process of changing a single consonant or semi-vowels of a word construction and put another consonant or semi-vowels in place of the substituted radical, such as word qawala ÙÙÙ) ) 'say' turned into QÄla ÙاÙ 'say' and samÄwun ( Ø3ÙاÙ ) 'sky' is changing be samÄun ( Ø3Ùاء ) 'sky'. It is clear that from ibdÄl process that occurs in a word, do not change the lexical meaning of the word. The theory used in this study is the theory of structural linguistics that analyzes language based on the internal structure of language itself. The approach used in this study is morphophonemic approach used to assess phonemesâ changes in the morphology process. From this research produced some important points, namely: First: Arabic is an inflectional language with disyllabic roots typology, Arabic has a strong morphological character based on radical interdigitation consonants and patterns. Interdigitation process is applied in both two-row model alphabet orthography. The first line of the structure is the consonants radical and the second row of the pattern structure formed by markers vocals. Each consonants radical has a own lexical meaning, using these roots can be established verities meaning through patterns apply. However, to note that the verb in Arabic language consists of consonants and semi-vowels elements. The word is constructed from consonant radical at all, will produce the same form of words on the pattern. But the word which constructed by semi-vowel will produce the new form, it is different from the pattern form. Second, IbdÄl lexically means replacement, i.e. forming a radical change in the Arabic word. All the process of changing the sound in Arabic is generally called ibdÄl. IbdÄl in Arabic linguistics is divided into two major parts: first, IbdÄl TashrÄ«f (morphological substitution) and the second, IbdÄl lughawÄ« (substitution dialectologies), IbdÄl TashrÄ«f is the process of changing sounds in Arabic that use rules which apply in Arabic linguistics. IbdÄl in this type is divided into three sections based on sound experience through which changes and patterns in the process of change, namely: Muta'Äqabah, I'lÄl and Qalb. Muta'Äqabah is the process of changing Øa be consonant ( Ø ̄, Ø·, Ø ̧, ذ ) on اÙØaØ1Ù pattern. I'lÄl is the process of change and replace each other between the semi-vowels ( Ù, Ù, ا ) and glottal ( (Ø¡ in Arabic. Qalb is the process of semi-vowels ( Ù, Ù, ا ) in Arabic to be consonant Øa) ) in اÙØaØ1Ù pattern. Provided semi-vowels become the first radical of the simple verb or verb trilateral assimilative. IbdÄl lughawi (dialectology substitution) is the process of change of consonants in Arabic which occurs in words that are caused by sounds articulator effects. This is divided into three types, namely: Adjacent articulation ( ,'' (اÙØaÙØ§Ø±Ø ̈ side by side articulation ( اÙÙØaجاÙرة ), and similar articulation ( .'' (اÙØaجاÙØ3 From these two divisions of this substitution (morphological and dialectology substitution) there are two very fundamental differences, namely: 28 first, substitution morphological already has a system and rules, so it seemed easier in the substitution format. While the dialectology substitution has no rules, but it only apply a specific sounds articulation that cannot be applied to all sounds. Second, especially for morphological substitution, the common word in use is only the result after the substitution process. But for the dialectology substitution can use both words, the word before and after undergoing a substitution process. Those are several points discussed by the writer in this thesis. However, the writer aware fully that within his research is still far from being perfect. Therefore, the writer recommends for other writers who study this chapter have to research this problem deeply.
