  • This research was done based on dynamic of KUD Usaha Bersama as economic institution that empowers its member through providing KUD business unit service. This research was intended (2) to identify KUD dynamic in member participation, interaction process among its member, accountability and transparence of KUD mechanism, and democratization process to increase member life welfare and (2) to identify various services the KUD Usaha Bersama offers for its members in order to empower its members. It used qualitative descriptive method. Data was collected through observation, interview and documentation. Data validity was tested with triangulation technique. Analysis was done with descriptive interactive technique through steps of data reduction, data presentation and inference or verification. The results indicated following matters. First, cooperation dynamic appeared in growth of KUD Usaha Bersama in adding and extending business unit from grocer supplying staple foodstuff and agricultural supplies to transportation service, electricity service and saving-loan service. Efforts to empower its members have been only conducted to give economic access. Providing the service was done gradually according to member needs. Economic access provision was followed with efforts of making member aware of importance of being active in cooperation, encourage member participation in cooperation business, keep positive interaction with member, strive accountability and mechanism transparence in the cooperation and democratization within the cooperation. However, member participation is only in using the KUD business unit to get daily needs or agricultural needs. Second, success of KUD Usaha Bersama in developing its business has benefited its members in form of economic facility service, supplying member needs and financial service. However, it is not automatically making the cooperation being able to empower all members because only small part of members that really use the cooperation to develop their selves for better life. The conclusion is that the cooperation dynamic grew according to society need level. KUD Usaha Bersama empowered its member just in providing economic needs of members. The cooperation has not oriented on empowering members because there is objective to increase KUD Usaha Bersama income.
