  • This thesis is the application of genealogical and power approach introduced by Michel Foucault. Genealogical approach to trace the development of sociology in Indonesia is very useful to understand the history that is influenced by social and political situation both inside and outside the country as the birth of a discourse context. If in the colonial Dutch East Indies, sociology as a discipline was still strong influence of Dutch social science, but when the New Order came to power in Indonesia, the orientation of sociology Indonesia shifted toward the construction of which is becoming an ideological character. Theoretically, the theories of modernization greatly influence the course of sociology in New Order Indonesia is that no other paradigm is also caused by the dominance of Parsonian Functionalism. Similarly, post-New Order followed by the phenomenon of globalization, in which the sociology of Indonesia began to evolve in order to answer the challenges of social change in communities that experienced a shift in patterns of interaction and communication as a new cultural forms, especially by the encouragement of the progress and development of new media. While the meaning of power in this thesis are useful in seeing how a discourse is produced through the relationship between institutional authority, the authority of the individual and the scientific practices as well as ongoing pewacanaan relationally. So the development of sociology Indonesia will look through the relationship of power at the macro level that determines the orientation in terms of scientific as well as on the micro level that determines the production and distribution of academic discourse (discursive practice). The presence of populist discourse in a historical sociology of Indonesian in the context of the struggle for independence is also inseparable from the efforts of all social scientists who examine the social impacts of the New Order developmentalism and real threats from the regime of neoliberalism such as poverty and economic resources of the people. Using Critical Discourse Analysis was initiated by Norman Fairclough as a method of analyzing the discourse of populist, then he helped in uncovering the veil of ideological, forms of inequality, domination and alignments of sociology texts Indonesian.
