- Social change towards press independency in Indonesia becomes a trigger to conduct this research. The press independency allows a space for mass media to criticize government policies. The research concerned on notable and captivating criticisms in Wayang Durangpo column in Jawa Pos daily newspaper. The column written by Sujiwo Tejo performs social criticism by utilizing certain characters and events of wayang in Mahabarata and Ramayana epics. The research aims at investigating some problems, which are: (1) how the social criticisms are performed by Sujiwo Tejo in Wayang Durangpo column in Jawa Pos daily newspaper, (2) how the criticisms are addressed to SBY-Boediono government, and (3) how the representations of characters in wayang are utilized to criticize SBY-Boediono government in Wayang Durangpo column. The research was conducted based on theory framework of social criticism, entertainment and the second order semiological system (myth). Roland Barthes� model of semiotics was used as an approach to make the analysis systematic. The sources of the data in this research were the five episodes of the text Wayang Durangpo and three culture customers. The data in the form of texts were collected by archiving technique, while the interview was conducted to gain the data from culture customers. The result revealed that social criticisms performed by Sujiwo Tejo in Wayang Durangpo column, explicitly or implicitly were addressed to government, board of Indonesian House of Representatives, and people. Most of them are based on morality principles or social criticism in principled social criticism type. However, the readers regard this social criticism as an entertainment. This are mean readers obtain entertainment by this epoch of Mahabarata or Ramayana and social criticism all at once. Then in that condition Wayang Durangpo coloumn parallel with Neil Postman�s concept in Amusing Ourselves To Death, being regarded as text of entertainment than social criticism manuscript. The second result shows domestication towards Wayang Durangpo�s column when comment on governmental institution named Perusahaan Listrik Negara/PLN (State Electricity Company). This condition occur as impact of the duality of chief person, Dahlan Iskan, in the institutions named Jawa Pos and PLN In the other side social critics toward SBY-Boediono also influenced by Sujiwo Tejo�s political affiliation, which is, in the opponent side of them, Yusuf Kalla. Third of all, representation changes occur towards figures in Wayang Durangpo column when undertaking social criticism. These figures not only refer to figures in Mahabarata or Ramayana epoch, but also can be refer to certain figures as target of social critic in this column.
