  • This research entitled Environmental Ethics in the Myth of Dema-Totem-Klen Marind-anim tribe in Papua: Its Relevance for Environmental Conservation in Indonesia. This research departs from a variety of environmental cases that occurred today, both at global and national scope, derived from human behaviour that is irresponsible, ignorant and selfish. Errors of this perspective comes from ethical anthropocentrism, which saw man as ruler over nature is allowed to do anything against nature and the only man that has a value, while the nature and everything in it just a tool for satisfying the interests and needs of human life. Errors of this view gave birth exploitative attitudes and behavior with no concern at all for nature and all its contents. On that basis, people need to return to the ethics of indigenous peoples (Marind-anim tribe in Papua), which offers different environments ethics of anthropocentrism, namely environmental ethic in the myth of Dema-Totem-Klen which is based on respect, compassion, caring and responsibility towards all life in the universe. The purpose of this research is to discover and describe the principles of environmental ethics in the myth of Dema-Totem-Klen and perform critical analysis of environmental management according to the environmental ethic in the myth of Dema-Totem-Klen. This is a library research which support by field data. This research using environmental ethics approach as a formal object. Material object is a myth Dema- Totem-Klen Marind-anim tribe in Papua. The method used is historical continuity, hermeneutics and heuristics. The results of this research as follow: First, nature is understood by the tribe Marind-anim as something sacred, so that evoke a sense of awe and respect, then the natural resources exploited by life-saving and simple and this is a fundamental principle of environmental ethics contained in the myth of Dema-Totem-Klen. Second, Marind-anim tribe understand that human beings are not outside nature and aggressive creatures of nature, but humans have a kinship with nature. Therefore, there are rules in the myth of Dema-Totem-Klen making systems that govern the natural result of the so-called sar. The rules are made to be big in the management and utilization of natural resources Marind-anim tribe concerned not ourselves, but also pay attention to the preservation of nature. Third, the environmental crisis in Indonesia is largely caused by human attitudes and their behavior that is arbitrary in the exploitation of natural resources. Therefore, it takes the application of a new lifestyle as the key to stopping all the practices and systems that threaten the survival of nature, namely the application of respect for the natural lifestyle that comes from the principles of environmental ethics in the myth of Dema -Totem-Klen of Marindanim tribe in Papua.
