- Novel Pesantren Ilalang by Amar De Gapi tells a modern Islamic boarding located far from downtown. Modernity here can be seen in terms of aspects of boarding facilities and infrastructure and learning systems. In the aspect of boarding school players still showed magical thinking and behavior. Magical thinking and behavior is contrary to the Islamic Aqeedah and also contrary to the purpose of pesantren, which aims to convey the true teachings of Islami according to the Hadis Nabi and the Alquran. this study revealed a cultural manifestation in the novel of Pesantren Ilalang and interprets the signs of the magical culture of the pesantren. This study uses Peirce's semiotic theory because the theory is a theory pansemiotic Peirce (global sign), meaning that woke up the whole universe of signs and the pragmatism of this theory includes the theory of interpretation that emphasizes things that can be captured and allow the experience of the subject. The concept of magical cultural is used to determine the signs of the magical culture of the novel Pesantren Ilalang. The results showed cultural manifestations in the magical culture of the boarding school in the novel Pesantren Ilalang shaped: (1) magical protective treatment or rejection of aggressive magical. Magical protective treatment performed by ustad pesantren leaders indicate that the treatment of mixing elements of Islam with the treatment performed by traditional healers and community traditions.(2) Destructive magical in the novel Pesantren Ilalang that brings aggressive disease called witchcraft. (3) Magical objects shaped amulet in the form of a snake-headed, gold-colored bullet in which there is a white cloth that reads loving prayer, gold-colored shells contained within the folds of black cloth about the size of a matchbox are tied with threads that are rolled with a white cloth and stone by the end of the little finger bearing "O ruler of the universe to protect the weak soul from all dangers�. Gold-colored shells shaped necklace that read Alif, Ba, Ta, Tsa, Jim. All forms are found in the form of amulets amulet kabalistic that serves to determine one's fortune, health, protection and others.
