- This study to aims uncover novel worldview Jalan Terbuka by Ali Audah, to know narrative structure of novel Jalan Terbuka and its social culture mediated by worldview so that finds out the total meaning of novel Jalan Terbuka. The Total meaning of novel jalan Terbuka can be revealed if the novel is understood as an intact unity. This study utilized the genetic structuralism theory of Lucien Goldmann. The method in this study was dialectical method. The method was applied on the basic that understanding can be done back and forth, with no end. The study began by formulating religious existentialism worldview, followed by analyzing the narrative structure of novel Jalan Terbuka, and analyzing structure. The worldview formulated in this study was religious existentialism worldview, namely an awareness of human effort displayed good values of his own self to prove that in the life ndhe existed based on the concept of religion that has two dimensions, i.e belief and behavior dimensions that all which centered on God. Based on the formulations of this religious existentialism worldview it could be understood that the narrative and social structures of novel Jalan terbuka were an expression of religious existentialism. In addition, based on the analysis it could be understood that novel Jalan Terbuka has a close relationship with the social structure of Jakarta in 1955�s when first general election since the independence of Indonesia would be performed until it completed. In the novel Jalan Terbuka a two-side meaning was discovered. On one side meaning of novel Jalan Terbuka as a human struggle in the context searched out his existence in the middle of the problem that was more and more complex in his life. The search brought human to the understanding that human was an element bound with another element, especially with God. On the other side , Jalan Terbuka was also novel as a response form of particular social class group to the Indonesian nation struggles toward a free and democratic country.
