  • Carrot leaves is awaste material from carrot which only used by the farmer as fertilizer and animal feed.This research was conducted to isolate and identified and to know the potention of compound which have the free radical scavenger antioxidant activity from the leaves of D.carota. Dried powder of D. carota leaves (100,19 g) was maserated to separate non polar and polar compounds from washbenzene, ethyl acetate, and finally with methanol. Those three crude extract was examined to free radical scavenging activity and sprayed by DPPH 0,2%. The extract which shown free radical scavenging activity was partitioned and fractionated using vacuum liquid chromatography with gradient elution of its polarity, that is n-heksana, the combination of n-hexane and ethyl acetate as well methanol. Each fraction which obtained from the activities free radical scavenger examined was seen its TLC profile. The active compound on active fraction was isolated which using preparative thin layer chromatography. The active compound (isolate) obtained was examined for its purity by TLC with three systems of mobile phase and 2 dimention of TLC. The structure identification of active compound was conducted by using spectrophotometer UV-Vis, IR, and 1 H-NMR and determine antioxidant activity using chelating agent method. The suggested free radical scavenger compound is the derivatives of xanthophylls which was similar with lutein. This suggestion based on the data of spectrophotometer UV-Vis, IR,and 1H-NMR which were similar with the data of lutein from literature. The isolate could inhibit of chelat about 0.94 + 0.05
