- The changing status of Tanjungpinang city as an autonom city gives greater opportunities for the city to grow. Such status provide the government more rooms and resources to push city development. The research aimed to describe the condition of Tanjungpinang city, before and after the status and explore the impacts of the new status to the city. This is a deductive type of research, using qualitative and rasionalistic approach. The study found that changes in the status of the city provides greater authority to the Tanjungpinang city�s government in directing and developing their own city. The changing status of the city has significants influence to the development of the city. The research recommends that supervision and control over protected areas are needed as well as consistency in the application of spatial city planning.
