- A process of getting to know other people�s characters is actually a part of human instinct. Men are created this way in order to be able to interact with other individuals. Relationships, based on its goals, are varied ranging from gaining friends, relations, to finding life-partners. The process of getting to know someone (in order to find a life-partner) and getting intimate with that individual exist in almost every region in Indonesia, although they may have different names. In Padang Lawas, such process is called Marhusip. Marhusip is a tradition in which whisper is employed by a man toward a woman, and vice versa, in order to determine whether he/she is the right life-partner candidate. This tradition is conducted by whispering some pantun (Indonesian specific type of poem). This research is done in order to analyze how this tradition is conducted now especially in the aftermath of cellphone trend widespreading among Padang Lawas teenagers. This research also wishes to see cellphone�s cultural implications to this tradition. Since this research is an ethnography research, it requires interview and field documentation. This research shows that there have been basic changes in the employment of media to find life-partners in Padang Lawas
