- Background: Gunungkidul District had the lowest coverage of exclusive breastfeeding compared to other districts and municipality in Yogyakarta province. Many factors affect exclusive breastfeeding, one of which is husband�s support. One of efforts to increase the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding is by counseling about breastfeeding process to husband. Objective: To increase exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Gunungkidul District. Method: This was an experimental study using a A Controlled Trial design. The population target was couples delivering a baby in Wonosari District Hospital and Kasih Ibu Maternity Hospital. The sample was obtained through consecutive sampling on subject meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample size using a formulation of Lemeshow with power 80% was 100 respondents. The independent variable was intervention in form of counseling about breastfeeding process to husband, the dependent variable was exclusive breastfeeding obtained with interview when the baby reached six months of age using a study instrument from Community Health and Nutrition Research Laboratory (CHN-RL) of UGM. The bivariabele analysis used chi-square test and the multivariabele analysis used logistic regression test with p value < 0.05. Result: Exclusive breastfeeding proportion was higher in the intervention group compared to the control group with p=0.00<0.05 and OR = 3.33 95% CI (1.22-9.11). The absence of negative role of parents or parents in law had a significant correlation to exclusive breastfeeding with OR = 3.87 95% CI (1.45-10.31). Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding proportion given by women with the husband receiving complete counseling about breastfeeding processes was greater than those with the husband not receiving incomplete counseling.
