- This research aims to examine the role of parent�s authoritative parenting style and the presence of social support from guidance counselor teacher, toward student�s ability in making a decision to select a field of study at SMA Negeri 3 Yogyakarta. Hypothesis posed in this research is parent�s authoritative parenting style and social support from guidance counselor teacher influence student�s decision making in selecting a field of study at SMA Negeri 3 Yogyakarta. This research involves three variables, that is student�s decision making in selecting field of study as dependent variable, authoritave parenting style and guidance counselor�s social support as independent variables. Participants of this research are senior high school students at SMA Negeri 3 Yogyakarta (N=120), especially from class of XI IPA, consist of 48 male and 72 female students. Survey method is used to collect data. The instrument consists of three section, Section A (Scale of Decision Making in Selecting Field of Study at Senior High School), Section B (Scale of Parent�s Authoritative Parenting Style), and Section C (Scale of Guidance Counselor Teacher�s Social Support). Data was analysed using multiple regression with SPSS for window 17.0 version. Result indicates a significant role of parent�s authoritative parenting style and social support from guidance counselor teacher toward student�s ability in making a decision to select a field of study at senior high school (F = 13,951, p < 0,05). Both independent variables determine 19,3 % of dependent variable (R= 0,193, p < 0,05).
