  • The purpose of this study examined the relationship between attachment style, sex role and academic achievement with self esteem in early adolescence, that were Junior High School student. The sample consisted of 154 adolescents. They were Junior High School students at City of Yogyakarta. They were 12-15 years old, male and female, lived with their parents and had complete parents. Method of sampling in this study was cluster and purposive sampling. Instrument used in this study were scale and documentation. The scale used to measure self esteem, attachment style and sex role were self esteem scale, attachment to parents scale, and sex role scale. Academic school record was used to gain data about academic achievement. In this study, data ware analyzed using multiple regression, partial correlation and one way anova. The result showed that: (1) attachment style, sex role and academic achievement were significant predictors of early adolescents self esteem. Attachment style is the most important variable that influences to self esteem, followed by sex role and academic achievement. (2) there was significant correlation between attachment style and sex role with self esteem, and there was no correlation between academic achievement with self esteem. (3) subject who had secure attachment style gained higher self esteem than subject who had insecure attachment style, and subject who had androgyny sex role gained higher self esteem than subject who had masculine, feminine and undifferentiated sex role.
