  • Sungai Lesan Protected Area of 12,192 ha has high bird biodiversity having potential for birdwatching ecotourism development. Based on investigation using MacKinnon species list and mistnets in three birdwatching tracts, there were 141 bird species in 41 families. Scoring of bird attraction for birdwatching ecotourism based on uniqueness, rarity and morphology beauty indicators resulted 70 interesting species and 71 less interesting species. Interesting birds from highest score are : Helmeted Hornbill (Rhinoplax vigil), Blue-headed Pitta (Pitta baudii), Great Argus (Argusianus argus), Rhinoceros Hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros), and Bornean Bristlehead (Pityriasis gymnocephala). Of three observation tract as study site, Karetan ia tract having highest bird species encounter (86 species), followed by Menara Pohon tract (74 species) and Sungai Ngeluy tract (62 species). Determination of priority tract to develop birdwatching ecotourism through Neu index analysis resulted in Menara Pohon tract as main priority, followed by Karetan tract in second rank and Sungai Ngeluy tract in last rank. Besides bird there was some ecotourism objects in the Sungai Lesan Protected Area. There were : 1) the panorama of nature, 2) canopy tower, 3) Ngeluy river cascade, 4) orangutan habitat, 6) ulin forest, 7) Letak research station and 8) Dayak Gaai culture.
