  • The first objective of this research was to study the roles of crossed categorization and social competence toward inter-group trust. Secondly, to study the role of crossed categorization toward inter-group trust. Third, to study the role of social competence toward inter-group trust. Research was conducted by taking samples Papua and Dayak-Banjar ethnics who lived in student-hostel in Yogyakarta. Total subject involved were 94 male, 47 subject of each ethnic. Total subject involved were 94 male, 47 subject of each ethnic. Multiple regression analysis and t-test, as additional analysis, were used to analyze data. Multiple regression analysis reveals that crossed categorization and social competence were positively play role toward inter-group trust with R = 0,58, F regression = 23, 99, and p <0,01. A valuable contribution of crossed categorization and social competence on inter-group trust displayed by Rsquare = 0,345. This suggests that inter-group trust can be predicted by crossed categorization and social competence as 34,5 % whereas 65, 5 % was determined by other variable. Regression analysis reveals that crossed categorization positively contribute toward inter-group trust with Beta Coefficient 0,29 with t = 2,94 and p <0,05. In addition, social competence also positively contribute toward intergroup trust with Beta Coefficient 0,52 with t = 5,88 and p <0,01. Additional analysis results from t-test demonstrates difference inter-group trust between Papua students and Dayak-Banjar was exist, t = 5,02 with p <0,01. Mean of intergroup trust for Dayak-Banjar ethnic and Papua ethnic were 88,66 and 77,43, respectively.
