  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of vitamin C 20% in mesotherapy with microneedle on acne scars. Experimental study was carried out on 30 acne scars patients in Cosmetic Clinic at Dr Sardjito Hospital. Each patient received vitamin C 20% and placebo on his/her half face after rolling with 1,5 mm microneedle. The total treatment was 3 session every 2 weeks. The patient was evaluated before and after treatment using face skin image analysis program (FSIA) and statistical analysis was done by using paired t test. The subject consisted of 13 men and 17 women. FSIA decreased significantly after treatment both in vitamin C and placebo groups (p<0,05). However, there was no difference in âFSIA between vitamin C and placebo groups (p>0,05). This might be due to masking effect of growth factor effect of microneedle to vitamin C effect, frequency of application and characteristic formulation of vitamin C. In conclusion vitamin C in microneedle therapy did not improve the efficacy of microneedle therapy compared to placebo. Therefore, vitamin C is not necessary added in mesotherapy with microneedle on therapy of acne scars.
