- Background: Factors encouraging someone to initiate smoking vary, either personal, social or environmental. The strongest personal factor is searching for self-identity. Cigarette advertisement the habit of smoking (Indonesiannya apa ya, Bu?) is described as a symbol of maturity, manhood and glamorous life. Therefore, health education for teenagers is needed to increase their knowledge and positive attitude to non smoking behavior. One method of health education is interactive discussion using audiovisual media. Objectives: The study was aimed to determine interactive discussion through audiovisual media that can increase adolescents� knowledge and positive attitude toward non smoking behavior at public senior high school of Banda Aceh Municipality. Methods: This was a quasi experimental study that used pre-test and post-test with a control study design. The experiment group was given intervention in form of interactive discussion with audiovisual media. Population of the study was smoking male students of grade I and grade II of social science classes. Sample size was based on the inclusion criteria. Data analysis used paired t-test for group I and independent t-test for the other group at significance 5% or p < 0.05. Results: Interactive discussion with audiovisual media could increase adolescent�s knowledge and positive attitude to non smoking behavior. This was indicated from: (a) an increase in variable of knowledge between pre-test and post-test 1 as much as 2.96 and between pre-test and posttest 2 as much as 2.70
