  • Peripheral neuropathy affects about 30% of people with diabetes mellitus (DM). Between 16% and 26% of diabetes patients experience chronic pain. This may be referred to as diabetic neuropathic pain (DNP) or diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP). Duration of diabetes mellitus is highly correlated with the development and progression of all neuropathies, including Painful Diabetic Neuropathy. The aim of this study was to know duration of diabetes mellitus as a risc factor for painful diabetic neuropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus with to count Odds Ratio (OR). Method: the study was design as a matched case-control study. Cases are type 2 DM patients with painful diabetic neuropathy, meanwhile the controls are type 2 Dm patients with non neuropathic pain, admitted in Posyandu Lansia, Kalasan subdistrict . The patients were then assessed with anamnesis, neurology physical examination, laboratory results and assessed painful diabetic neuropathy with LANSS scale. Each case and control has 49 subjects. Bivariat analysis result, statistically significant risc factors increase painful diabetic neuropathy are duration of diabetes mellitus (OR: 4,267
