Daftar Isi:
  • A survey was conducted to determine the financial as well as operational feasibility of native chicken hatchery operation in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. Three types of operation differing in the hatchery methods used, i.e. 1) natural hatchery (using hens), 2) 100-egg capacity hatchery and 3) 1000-egg capacity hatchery machines. Financial analyses comprise of the analyses of payback period (PP), net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR) and benefit/cost (BC) ratio, followed by sensitivity analyses. It was found that the three types of hatchery operations were financially feasible. Sensitivity analyses showed that the operations remained feasible under maximum day-old chick sale price decreases of 1.67, 17.04 and 27.04%, or maximum variable cost changes of 1.74, 23.79 and 40,25%, for operation type-1, 2 and 3, respectively. To meet the demand of Bantul Regency for day-old chicks, it needs 86 farmers running type-1 operation or 408 units of type-2 operation, or 53 units of type-3 operation, requiring investment costs of Rp 1,457,464,600, Rp 837,379,200, or Rp 887,750,000, respectively. It is recommended to run the type-2 operation.
