  • Background Hypertension was risk factor for increased morbidity and mortality resulted from cerebrovasculare and end stage renal disease. Prehypertension related with greater tendency for hypertension and cardiovasculare accident than normotension. Genetic plays role in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension. DD genotype and D-allele of the angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) polymorphism is thought to be important in the pathogenesis of hypertension and cardiovascular disease. The aim of the research is to know the difference of the frequency of DD genotype and D-allele of ACE polymorphism in hypertension and prehypertension patients in Mlati subdistrict, Sleman district, Yogyakarta and to know whether ACE polymorphism is the risk factor of hypertension. Material and Methods This case control study of 128 patients in Mlati subdistrict, Sleman district, Yogyakarta. Cases are hypertension patients and controls are prehypertension patients that matched in ages and sex, and then checked for ACE gene polymorphism with polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Statistical analysis for the subject characteristics with student t-test or alternatively by Mann Whitney
