- Mangroves deforestation that occured in Karimunjawa cause problems with loss of ecological functions and economic benefits provided by mangrove forests. This study aims to 1.identifying the damaged mangrove areas and the factors causing damage to mangrove areas. 2. predict the economic value lost due to damage to mangrove areas. The method used is an area proportional random sampling based of Normalize Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) results which has been done on image processing. The result of image processing used as a guide to determine sampling locations based on vegetation mapping unit for data acquicition. The calculation of the economic value of mangrove forest conducted based on the total economic value of various products and services that are taken or provided by mangrove forests and qualitative descriptive analysis method to determine socio-economic conditions of the population. Scoring analysis method used to measure perceptions of residents in research area of mangrove area management. There was 26.10 ha reduced in high density area. In general, Karimunjawa mangrove forest environmental conditions in good clasified. Environmental parameters showed normal values and still be in the range of good conditions for growth and development of mangrove species. Causes of forest degradation is more due to the economic conditions of population in mangrove areas. Socio-economic conditions in Karimunjawa relatively low population. This is reflected by the level of community education and income levels are relatively low. Meanwhile, most respondents have a level of knowledge and level of perception "positive".
