  • This study aims to determine the differences in apical leakage between obturation technique continuous wave of condensation and carrier-based gutta percha with different sealer based zinc oxide eugenol and resin. Research using 40 mandibular premolars. The subject of research prepared by crown down technique. Research subjects were randomly divided into 2 groups each consisting of 20 teeth, ie group I root canals with ZOE based sealer and group II root canals with resin based sealer. Each group was divided again into two groups: group A and group B each consisting of 10 teeth. Group A root canal is filled with carrier-based gutta percha obturation technique while group B filled with the continuous wave of condensation obturation techniques. All groups are stored in an incubator at 37 ° C for 7 days with relative humidity of 100%. The entire root surface coated with two coats of nail polish and one layer of adhesive except the apical 2 mm and soaked 2% methylene blue solution for 1 week at 37 ° C. Furthermore, nail polish cleaned and clearing techniques was used to observe the penetration of the dye solution. Color penetration was observed using a stereo microscope with a magnification of 60x. Penetration of the color of methylene blue solution is an indicator of apical leakage. The results showed that obturation with zinc oxide eugenol based sealer has a greater apical leakage than obturation using resin based sealer (p<0,05), there was no difference in thermoplastic obturation techniques using Thermafil and System B on apical leakage (p>0,05) , there is no interaction between sealer with the obturation technique on apical leakage (p>0,05). Obturation with zinc oxide eugenol base sealer has a greater apical leakage than obturation using resin-based sealer on research using obturation technique carrier-based gutta percha and continuous wave of condensation, no differences in the use of two types of thermoplastic obturation techniques, namely thermoplastic obturation techniques using Thermafil and System B on apical leakage, and no interaction between sealer with obturation techniques on apical leakage.
