  • Energy deficit of 20 MW from the PT. PLN branch Mataram causing rotating power outages. The industry and the business are advised to conduct their own alternative energy generators. Nyangget irrigation canal with a large water potential is 1550 liters/second with 52.76 KW. The power potential not used to generate electrical energy but only used as a carrier channel to irrigate agricultural land in two districts of West Lombok and Central Lombok. Local potentials can be used as an MHP to development progress and improve the welfare of the community. MHP turbine can not be made en masse always designed based on the available potential so it can not buy directly in the market but must be in the message according to the available potential. The method used in this study is the experimental method and comparison, the dimensions openflume turbine designed based on available local potential called the turbine design. Dimensions of turbine design is then scaled to the scale of 3:1 by using the rule of geometric similarity to obtain dimensional turbine model. Openflume turbine model scale results are made from steel pipe with a thickness of 3 mm and 2 mm plate, assembled with electric welding machines and tooling equipment. Tests conducted without the burden of head 3.4 meters with a discharge be changed later rotation and torque are measured to obtain the power output and efficiency of the turbine model. Efficiency and output power turbine to convert the model using formula Moody (1942) to obtain characteristics of the turbine design. The results showed that characteristics of the turbine model is a specific speed 700 rpm with 88% efficiency at 3.4 meter head with 145 mm diameter runner, debit 11.85 liters/sec and the power output from 347 watt. After converted by Moody formula (1942) obtained characteristics of the turbine design is specific speed was 300 rpm with 70.81% efficiency on the head with a diameter of 3.4 meter runner 430 mm, flow 1550 liter/sec and 35.53 KW. Potential energy produce is 35.53 KW every year that is enough to supply the load as much as 3 hamlets in the vicinity of the potential of 28.40 KW. Time power can be used for street lighting and for small industries and households.
